Wooden headquarters in Bolzano - South Tyrol

The south façade of the building

In front of the cube-shaped office building with load-bearing timber frame walls, LignoAlp has installed an expressive timber façade at its company headquarters in the Brixen industrial zone. Wood outside, wood inside: Wood in view also dominates the entrance area and staircase. The façade elements are made of pressure impregnated laminated veneer lumber. The honeycomb ceilings of the offices, the lift and the staircase made of cross-laminated timber panels create a harmonious and varied overall picture. Energy efficiency and ecological construction were the focus of the ideas competition, along with the use of wood. The competition was won by MoDus architects from Brixen. LignoAlp realised the timber construction in timber frame and cross laminated timber construction and implemented it in the KlimaHaus Gold Nature energy standard.

A successful experiment

Interview with Markus Damiani

The curved façade convinced us immediately. That's why we decided to go with the architects' proposal, even though the technical solution had to be developed first - there was nothing comparable. We benefited from the extensive experience we had already gained in timber construction. Therefore, we succeeded in finding a solution that met our requirements both visually and in terms of durability. Looking back, I can say that this "experiment" was definitely worth it. As it looks, the originally predicted service life of 15 years is clearly exceeded. For this reason, our façade is proof once again that wooden façades can be modern, unconventional and yet durable. Moreover, it has become a symbol for our company, so to speak.
